State Police Conduct Underage Drinking Initiative

(Watertown, NY - July 02, 2010)On July 2 New York State Police, Watertown, were assigned to conduct checks at local retail establishments to ensure compliance with existing laws that prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages to persons under the age of 21. These checks were completed using an operative, who was less than 21, that when asked, would provide identification that clearly identified this operative as a person that could not purchase alcoholic beverages.

As a result of these checks, the following businesses were checked, and were found to be in compliance, failing to sell alcoholic beverages to the less than 21 year old operative:

The purpose of these details is to reduce and heighten the public’s awareness of the dangers associated with young adults obtaining alcohol, and the related dangers associated with highway safety.

The New York State Police were assisted with this investigation by the Fort Drum Federal Police Department, and Military Police, as well as support from the Jefferson County District Attorney.

Lafargeville teen faces charges following a domestic dispute

(Lafargeville, NY – June 22, 2010) A 16-year-old Amend Road, Lafargeville teen faces charges of Menacing 3rd, Criminal Tampering 3rd and Torturing or Injuring an Animal.

The Defendant had a domestic dispute with his mother Ivy Sanford-Wiencek, which resulted in Defendant kicking and punching two dogs at the residence, taking apart a tire on his mothers vehicle, then raising a tire iron in the air threatening to kill her.

He was arraigned at the town of Orleans Court and is scheduled to return on July 15 at 7 p.m.

Criminal Contempt arrest in LaFargeville

(LeFargeville, NY – April 22, 2010) The New York State Police in Alexandria Bay arrested WADE A. SANFORD, age 35, 22020 Hax Road, LaFargeville for Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree.

On 04/21/10, Mr. SANFORD sent his estranged wife – KIMBERLEY L. SANFORD – a text message. The text message violated an Order of Protection that was issued by Jefferson County Family Court.

Mr. SANFORD was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Watertown court on 04/29/10 and released.

UPDATE: Man Dead After Shooting

(Alexandria Bay, NY – April 12, 2010) - The shooting occurred at the residence owned and occupied by Jesse S. Bartlett, age 33. The investigation suggests that there was an altercation between Bartlett and the victim, Keith Brabant, age 33, at Bartlett’s home 41026 County Route 2, Larfargeville on the morning hours of April 11, 2010. The altercation resulted in the shooting death of Keith Brabant.

At this time, no arrests have been made and the investigation continues. The New York State Police were assisted on scene by members of the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office and the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office. This matter is pending presentment to a Jefferson County Grand Jury.

State Police Investigate Shooting in Alexandria Bay

(Alexandria Bay, NY - April 11, 2010) - At approximately 9:00 am this morning, State Police in Alexandria Bay responded to a reported shooting at 41026 County Route 2, Lafargeville,NY in Jefferson County.

Troopers located a male deceased at the residence. At this time, it is unknown if any criminal liability exists. The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office. All persons involved are currently cooperating with the investigation.

No further information is available at this time.

Petit Larceny Arrest in the Town of Orleans

(Jan. 21, 2010) The New York State Police in Alexandria Bay arrested FRANK W. JONES, age 45, of 22963 Hax Road, LaFargeville, NY for Petit Larceny this morning.

Jones was arrested after his neighbor, George E. Middleton Jr., age 36, 22635 Hax Road, LaFargeville, NY – reported to State Police that between 01/19/10 and this morning, someone had damaged his satellite dish and stolen approximately 100 gallons of kerosene from a tank outside his residence. The responding Trooper noted tire tracks from a four wheeler and a trailer leading from the kerosene tank to Jones’ property.

Jones was found in possession of a four wheeler with a trailer containing six five gallon cans of kerosene.

Jones admitted to the larceny of the kerosene, but denied damaging the satellite dish.

Jones was arrested for Petit Larceny, issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Orleans Court on 02/02/10, and released.

The criminal mischief to the satellite dish is still under investigation.

State Police in Watertown Arrest Man for Sexual Abuse

The State Police in Watertown arrested Wade P. Ingalls, Lafargeville, NY, on 1 count of Sexual Abuse 3rd a Class B Misdemeanor and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child a Class A Misdemeanor.

Ingalls is accused of subjecting a 16 year old female to sexual contact on separate occasions.

The incidents occurred from June 2009 thru December 2009. Ingalls was issued an appearance ticket to appear at Town of Orleans court.

Police charge Clayton woman with Harassment

(Clayton, NY – Dec. 20, 2009) – State Police in Alexandria Bay arrested 38 year old Aimee L. Cooley of 15739 County Route 3, Clayton, NY for Harassment in the Second Degree.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred on Nov. 21, 2009 at a benefit at Obrien’s Restaurant and Bar in the Village of Clayton. State Police claim that Cooley, who was a patron at the benefit for a critically ill local woman, grabbed 20 year old Jessica Thompson of County Route 5, Lafargeville by the hair and pulled her to the ground. Thompson was working for the benefit at the time.

Cooley was issued a Criminal Summons to appear in the Village of Clayton court on Dec. 29, 2009 at 7 p.m.

Lafargeville man arrested for Issuing a Bad Check

(Larfargeville, NY – December 09, 2009) Terry L. Alguire, age 39, Middle Rd. Lafargeville was arrested for Issuing a Bad Check at the Town of Orleans Office for a hunting license on 10/26/09 in the amount of $81. Alguire was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Orleans court on 12/15/09 at 7:00pm.

Father and Son Killed in Motor Vehicle Accident in the Town of Orleans

The New York State Police in Alexandria Bay are investigating a double fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on the Middle Road in the Town of Orleans at approximately 5:20 PM.

Joel P. Getman, age 68, of County Route 3, LaFargeville, NY and his son, Duane J. Getman, age 46, Las Vegas, NV were both killed after being ejected from their vehicle. They were Northbound on Middle Road, when the vehicle exited the roadway into the ditch. The vehicle then rolled numerous times, striking a telephone poll and small trees. Neither man was wearing a seatbelt.

The investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the accident and to determine which man was driving. Anyone with any information regarding this accident is asked to contact the State Police at 315 482-5011.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the LaFargeville Volunteer Fire Department and TIERS Ambulance.
