(Theresa, NY – December 08, 2009) On Dec. 8 at 5:40 p.m., Jefferson County 911 received a cell phone call from Floyd J. Frye reporting that he was lost in the Coyote Flats State Forest area in Theresa after muzzle loader hunting earlier in the day.
Responding were the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and the New York State Police, along with state forest rangers and the Theresa Volunteer Fire Department.
Audible attempts to locate Frye resulted in negative results. Contact with Frye’s cell phone was lost and division aviation was contacted for assistance.
Almost immediately upon arrival and approximately one mile from his vehicle, ground personnel were directed by division aviation to Frye’s location and escorted him out.
Philadelphia Ambulance was on the scene and treated Frye for hypothermia due to exposure. He was transported to Samaritan Medical Center for further examination.
