State Police Watertown Nab Cape Vincent Man – Just Under the Wire thumbnail

(Watertown, NY – Jan. 12, 2010) State Police Watertown arrested 48 year old Thomas J. Newell of 400 Centre St. Cape Vincent, NY for one count of Grand Larceny 3rd.

Newell was arrested as State Police on routine patrol noticed suspicious activity in the area of the National Grid garage located on State Route 232 in the Town of Watertown. Upon patrol checking area on foot they located Newell actively removing copper wire from inside the secure/fenced in area. Upon observing troopers Newell briefly attempted to leave the area, but was apprehended at the scene.

National Grid Security on scene estimated the value of the copper is approximately $4500.

Newell was charged with one count of Grand Larceny 3rd degree, arraigned at the Town of Watertown Court and remanded to the Jefferson County Jail on $10,000 bail. Police are continuing this investigation and further charges are pending against Newell.

State Police were assisted at scene by the Jefferson County SO and National Grid Security.
